  
In humid climates there will be moisture in the air sealed
inside the case. In the case of cameras, this moisture tends to condense
inside the lens. A sachet of silica gel will absorb any such moisture,
keeping the contents completely dry.
Silica gel sachets can normally be re-used if dried out gently in a
microwave or conventional oven.
